What is a R.H.N.
A Registered Holistic Nutritionist (R.H.N) is a certified professional who adopts a comprehensive approach to health and wellness, considering various facets of an individual’s life. This approach extends beyond mere nutritional considerations, encompassing mental, physical, emotional, environmental, and nutritional dimensions. By embracing a whole-person perspective and employing nutritional education as the primary tool, this methodology eschews a standardized approach. Instead, it involves a meticulous analysis of each person’s distinct needs and aspirations when working with individuals, recognizing that each person’s requirements are as unique as the individual themselves.
Becoming a Registered Holistic Nutritionist requires the completion of a holistic nutrition program offered by an accredited institution or holistic nutrition school. This program involves extensive classroom work conducted by Naturopathic Doctors and Registered Holistic Nutritionists, accompanied by many hours of studying. Furthermore, students are required to engage in practical learning by completing hands-on case studies involving volunteers facing real-life health issues. The culmination of the program involves a comprehensive proctored board exam, assessing the knowledge and skills acquired during the holistic studies.
Success in the program is contingent upon achieving a minimum number of classroom hours and courses while maintaining an 80 percent average mark or greater for the entire program. Only upon meeting these criteria, and passing the final board exam, is an individual certified as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.
R.H.N versus Other Certified Nutritionists.
Certified nutritionists acquire their knowledge through self-paced studies. In contrast, Registered Holistic Nutritionists (R.H.N.s) must complete many hours of instructor-led courses taught by other R.H.N.s and Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.s). R.H.N. students are also required to undertake hands-on case studies with volunteers experiencing real, everyday health issues and must pass an extensive proctored board exam. This process broadens and deepens the experiences of an R.H.N., enabling them to support clients with complex health issues that often fall beyond the scope of practice for other practitioners.
